Team Strike Force and Just Lob It, with helpers Robin, Mike and Pete, arrived at the Britannia Wigan Hotel on Friday, 13 May for a 2-night stay. After a relaxing evening, all were up early and ready to roll on 14 May 2016, finals day.
The day started at 10.30 am at AMF Wigan Bowl. Once the lanes were set-up, the teams were announced and the bowling began.
At the end of the first game Team Strike Force seemed to enjoy a good start with Dave scoring a turkey (3 strikes in a row). Just Lob It felt they did not start as well with Tracey being the best scorer and Sue the worst. Six games were played in all throughout the day with each team moving to a different lane after each game.
The bowling finished at 4 pm and I think it is fair to say that neither team felt they had done well enough to be in with a chance of the top prize. Now came the wait!
Dinner was served at the hotel at 7 pm and once the meal was out of the way the presentations began. The first to be announced were the winners of the Team Knock-out and Individual Knock-out competitions which are played throughout the season. Then came the results of the finals!
As the team in 12th place was announced, we were all on the edge of our seats hoping we had not come last. There was a big sigh of relief when it wasn’t either of our teams. Next came 11th and 10th and still Team Strike Force and Just Lob It were in with a chance. Then Team Strike Force were announced as being in 9th place. By this time Just Lob It were getting more and more excited!
Then came the announcements for 8th, 7th, 6th, 5th and 4th, and after each announcement Just Lob It were increasingly excited. Then it came, with Just Lob It coming 3rd. Who would have thought it?!
When the presentations were over, some participants went off to bed but some of us celebrated into the early hours. After breakfast on Sunday, we all returned to Swindon feeling tired but happy after a successful weekend.
